WASHINGTON, DC, March 26, 2025: Continuing to expand its roster of former US government officials, Morgan Lewis welcomes Brandon Figg as a partner in the firm’s structured transactions practice in the Washington, DC office. An accomplished private and public sector lawyer, Brandon most recently served as senior special counsel for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Division of Corporation Finance.

Brandon will advise financial institutions, issuers, arrangers, and underwriters on asset-backed securities, collateralized loan obligations, and other financing transactions. He will also advise securitizations participants on the adoption and implementation of policies and procedures under the SEC’s Conflict of Interest Rule.

“Our clients turn to Morgan Lewis for counsel on increasingly complex SEC regulatory and reporting issues. Brandon’s experience and legal acumen offer a dual perspective that will help our clients maximize their strategic opportunities,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon.

In addition to his role as senior special counsel for the Division of Corporation Finance’s Office of the Director, Brandon served as special counsel in the Office of Structured Finance and as an attorney advisor in the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets. Prior to his time at the SEC, Brandon spent more than seven years as a structured finance transactions lawyer in private practice at a major international law firm.

“Beyond his invaluable government experience, Brandon is well versed in the intricacies of structured transactions,” said Mark Riccardi, global leader of the firm’s structured transactions practice. “We welcome Brandon for his talent, collegial spirit, and intellectual curiosity, and know he will add immediate value to our strong team.”

Brandon’s arrival follows a number of key additions the firm has made in the Chambers Global Band 1 ABS practice, including Dasha Sobornova and Merryn Craske in London and David Sylofski in New York.

Brandon also adds to Morgan Lewis’s cadre of senior SEC leaders, including Carolyn Welshhans, former associate director of the Division of Enforcement and acting data officer for the division; Kelly L. Gibson, former acting deputy director of the Enforcement Division; Frederick L. Block, former supervisory trial counsel in the Enforcement Division; Christine Ayako Schleppegrell, former branch chief at the Division of Investment Management; and Erin E. Martin, former legal branch chief in the Division of Corporation Finance.
