Cookie Policy

OCTOBER 2024

This policy describes Morgan Lewis’ use of cookies and tracking technologies on www.morganlewis.com and other firm websites and digital properties that link to this policy (collectively “websites”) to enable features on our websites, analyze the use of our websites, and improve user experience on our websites.

If you have any questions about the use of cookies on our websites, please contact the Morgan Lewis Privacy Office at MLPrivacyOffice@morganlewis.com.

Your Consent & Choices About Cookies.

On your first visit to our websites, a pop-up banner discloses that we use cookies to improve the functionality and performance of our websites as well as the means for you to control those cookies. You will see this banner each time you visit the websites until you take action to respond to it.

For visitors located outside of the United States, when you click on the “Accept All Cookies” button, you agree that we can “use” (collect, save, store, change, transfer (including transborder transfer) and delete) cookies as described below. You also agree that your personal data (including any personally identifiable information) may be collected and stored by third parties located in the United States. Please see the How Do We Use Particular Cookies? section below for more information.

Regardless of your location, if you would like to manage the use of the cookies (except for strictly necessary cookies) or withdraw your consent, where applicable, you can click on the “Customize Cookies” button or use the Cookie Preference Center to turn those categories off or on, as well as to learn more about them.

What is a Cookie, How We Use Them & How Long They Stay.

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your web browser when you visit our websites.  Cookies help us distinguish you from other visitors by allowing us to learn and remember your actions and preferences on our websites. In this way, cookies help us provide you with customized content and efficient navigation through our websites.

There are two broad categories of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie expires and disappears when you close your browser. A persistent cookie stays on your device for a pre-defined time-period or until you manually delete it.

Morgan Lewis does not use web beacons, SDK, pixels, or similar tools that work together with cookies to recognize visitors or how they interact with content. If you block third-party cookies through the Cookie Preference Center, this will also disable any related web beacons, SDKs, pixels, or similar tools that third parties may set on your device.

Managing and Disabling Cookies.

You can manage or disable cookies at any time by adjusting your browser settings. Please refer to the settings menu of your browser for instructions on how to change your cookie preferences.  If you choose to disable cookies, the Morgan Lewis websites may not function properly, and certain content may not be available. While browsers vary, the following links may be helpful:

(d) Cookie settings in Safari on Mac and Safari on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

What Types of Cookies Do We Use?

We use four types of cookies on our websites: strictly necessary cookies; analytical/performance cookies; functionality cookies; and targeting/advertising cookies. Each cookie is described below.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are required for the operation of our websites and cannot be switched off without impairing the functioning of our websites. The cookies are set to respond to the actions you take, including navigating our websites and using its basic features. These cookies do not store any Personal Data.

Analytical/Performance Cookies

These cookies provide statistical information, such as the number of visitors to our websites in an aggregated and anonymized fashion and show how visitors navigate our websites. This helps us improve the performance of our websites. We may use third party analytic tools, such as Google Analytics, to help measure traffic and usage trends and to understand the demographics of our users.

Functionality Cookies

These cookies provide enhanced functionality and personalization on our websites, such as remembering your preferences. They are set by the firm or by third party providers, such as Vimeo, whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly. These cookies do not track your activity on other sites or store any Personal Data.

Targeting/Advertising Cookies

These cookies profile users or deliver ads across social networks. The social sharing tools that we use on our websites include ShareThis, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (formally Twitter), also known as Social Media cookies. These platforms allow you to share our content with your friends and networks. These cookies do not directly identify you or store your Personal Data, but they can uniquely identify your browser and internet device; however, when you are logged into your accounts on other networks (i.e., Facebook, etc.), those platforms may collect data about your activities. If you do not allow these cookies, you may not be able to use or see these sharing tools on our site.

First and Third-Party Cookies.

“First-party cookies” are cookies that Morgan Lewis websites create and store on your device, or cookies that have been added by another service on Morgan Lewis’ behalf, when you visit our websites. They are only available to websites in the morganlewis.com domain (e.g., www.morganlewis.com).

“Third-party cookies” are those set by a third-party service (i.e., different domain or site such as a video service or social platform) - typically when you use a specific function of our websites (e.g., playing a video or sharing a page). These cookies can be readable on any other website that uses the same third-party service. You should review the third-party’s website for more information about how they use cookies. Details of third parties that set cookies through Morgan Lewis websites may be found in the section below entitled Cookies Used by Morgan Lewis.

Analytics Cookies.

Our websites use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymized statistics to help us understand how site visitors use our sites and to continuously improve the user experience. Google Analytics is a web analysis service of Google LLC ("Google"). Information generated about your use of this websites may be transferred to and stored in a Google server in the United States or otherwise outside of your jurisdiction.

Google’s web analytics services use cookies to monitor traffic levels, search queries, and site visits. Google Analytics will use this information to measure your activity on our websites, compile statistical reports on overall content interaction activity, and provide other services relating to website activity and internet usage.

Morgan Lewis has activated the IP anonymization feature in Google Analytics, which will anonymize a visitor’s IP address (by masking the last octet) before it is stored. Google represents that IP addresses for EU, Swiss and UK user traffic are not transferred outside of these jurisdictions. Further, we have configured Google Analytics to not share your data with any third parties.

If you are located outside of the United States, the Google Analytics cookies are not activated unless you freely opt-in to the use of these cookies via the “Accept All Cookies” or “Customize Cookies” buttons in our banner. You may opt-out of the Google Analytics cookies at any time by clicking the “Customize Cookies” button above.

Within the United States, you may opt-out of the Google Analytics cookies by customizing your cookie settings in the Cookie Preference Center by clicking the “Customize Cookies” button in our banner or above.

For more information about Google Analytics cookies, please see Google’s Privacy & Terms: https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. If you would like to opt out of Google Analytics entirely, Google has developed an opt-out browser add-on that you can download and install for your web browser here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How Do We Use Particular Cookies?

Morgan Lewis does not collect any Personal Data through our first-party cookies, nor do we share any Personal Data with third parties. Information about the cookies we have used on our websites over the last twelve months is available here.

For all other cookies that do collect Personal Data, the data processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and 7(1) GDPR).
