Trump Orders Jeopardise USPTO AI Inventorship Guidance, World IP Review

Partner Dion Bregman was quoted in a World IP Review article about the impact of the Trump-Vance administration’s recent executive order on artificial intelligence (AI).

Dion noted that less regulation could create a “more permissive environment” for AI development, which could lead to a “surge” in patent applications being filed at the US Patent and Trademark Office for larger and more complex AI systems. He also suggested that, in the absence of federal guidelines on AI safety, litigation may shift from AI regulatory compliance to consumer protection and tort law.

“Parties may need to rely more heavily on existing laws and precedents,” Dion said.
