Dion M. Bregman has decades of experience in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) trials, patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation. He has successfully led over 165 PTAB proceedings representing both petitioners and patent owners. Dion also oversees extensive patent portfolios for Fortune 500 companies and startups, specializing in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). He is the deputy leader of the firm’s intellectual property practice, co-leader of the firm’s PTAB group, co-leader of the AI Client Solutions initiative, and serves on the firm’s Advisory Board.

Dion is a trusted advisor to technology companies seeking to protect and leverage their innovations. Recognized as a California Lawyer of the Year by California Lawyer and a Top Intellectual Property Lawyer in California by the Daily Journal, he represents public and private companies across diverse industries, including software, hardware, user interfaces, media, internet, telecommunications, medical devices, aerospace, business methods, fintech, semiconductors, healthcare, and electric and autonomous vehicles, with a particular focus on AI-related technologies.

Dion has prepared and prosecuted thousands of patent applications and has specialized knowledge in post-grant proceedings, including reexaminations, inter partes reviews (IPRs), and covered business method reviews. He argued the second-ever IPR before the PTAB and has since handled over 165 post-grant proceedings. In addition, he regularly prepares noninfringement and invalidity opinions.

Dion maintains an active litigation practice and was instrumental in achieving a $140 million victory in ActiveVideo v. Verizon, one of the largest patent damage awards in the United States, with a total expected recovery exceeding $260 million. He is consistently recognized as a leading patent lawyer by IAM Patent 1000, The Legal 500, Managing IP, and Thomson Reuters.
