Rewind and (P)FASt Forward: Current Developments in PFAS Regulation

The past year proved to be a significant one for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) governance, with the industry experiencing a whirlwind of new regulatory activity from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), from a final retrospective reporting rule for PFAS to a proposed rule establishing the first enforceable national drinking water standards for six PFAS chemicals. As it is anticipated EPA will continue along this forward-moving trajectory to further additional regulation, 2024 is on track to be another monumental year.

This report summarizes these and other major PFAS regulatory developments from 2023 and forecasts what 2024 may have in store.
