Partner William Yonge spoke to Global Capital about the European Securities and Markets Authority’s consultation on amending the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II’s bundling payments provision for execution and investment research.
“While the new UK framework for research payments has generated considerable interest, many UK buy side firms have been reluctant to be seen as a first mover,” said William. “This is likely to persist until one or more big players make their move in taking advantage of the new framework, which will require some investment, changes and conversations (sometimes challenging ones) with clients who have got used to the buy side bearing the cost of investment research.”
