Healthcare Dive quoted partner Amy Magnano discussing the possibility of states setting cybersecurity regulations for healthcare organizations in 2024 given the growing sophistication and breadth of cyberattacks. Amy noted that while New York proposed rules for hospitals in November 2023 and states with robust medical records requirements (such as California and Washington) might be interested in regulation, providers would likely prefer improved infrastructure, funding, or guidance rather than fragmented regulation.
“A lot of these privacy acts on a state-by-state level, they’re all a little bit different,” Amy said. “So preventing cybersecurity attacks, I don’t know if regulation on a state-by-state level is going to be the thing that improves that issue.”
