Michael J. Madderra counsels on healthcare privacy, security, and technology matters, such as regulatory compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), as well as state privacy laws, including the Washington My Health My Data Act (MHMDA) and the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA). Using his experience in complex healthcare litigation, Mike also represents a variety of clients in product liability, commercial dispute, and tort matters. He also advises healthcare industry clients on corporate structuring, contracts, and internal investigations. Mike is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/US (CIPP/US).
While he primarily focuses on healthcare privacy and security compliance, Mike has a robust complex litigation practice in state and federal courts. His litigation matters include healthcare, medical malpractice, toxic tort, and product liability defense.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mike worked on litigation and privacy matters at other law firms in the Seattle area. In law school, he was the executive articles editor of the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal and externed for Judge Julie Spector of the King County Superior Court and at the Federal Trade Commission’s Northwest Region. Mike lives in Seattle with his wife and son.
