Allen Denson represents financial institutions and fintech companies that are forced to defend their business practices against federal and state financial regulators. Allen guides clients through agency investigations, litigation, and regulatory inquiries involving both safety and soundness and consumer protection issues. He also advises clients on the application of federal banking and consumer protection laws. A former senior attorney at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Allen has developed a boots-on-the-ground understanding of regulatory agencies.
Allen has represented a variety of financial services providers and fintech companies facing scrutiny from regulators such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), prudential banking agencies, state regulators, and state attorneys general. He also counsels clients that are developing new products or investing in new ventures, advising them on compliance and regulatory risk.
Allen began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins of the US District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He then spent five years as a senior attorney at the OCC’s Enforcement & Compliance Division before moving into private practice, where he has excelled in finding creative solutions to complex problems.
He is routinely sought out by legal and trade publications for his thoughts on financial regulations and regularly speaks on trends in the financial regulatory arena.
