Will the US Copyright Office’s AI Stance Create More Problems Than It Solves?, World IP Review

Partner Ron Dreben spoke with World IP Review to discuss the US Copyright Office’s latest report on artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright, which has received mixed reactions within the intellectual property (IP) community.

Ron noted that there was “little surprising” in the report, which does not propose any new legislation for AI copyright protection, and recommended that AI creators focus on including and being able to explain human authorship in their AI-related works.

Ron also warned that if AI-assisted works become too difficult to protect under US copyright law, companies may restrict the use of AI. However, he told the publication that he believes the productivity and creative advantages of AI are likely to “keep interest in development and deployment going strong in the US.”
