BOSTON, December 9, 2024: Morgan Lewis continues the growth of its global tax practice with the addition of partner Tamara Shepard from DLA Piper, resident in the firm’s Boston office. Drawing on her experience in private practice and as an appellate attorney at the US Department of Justice’s Tax Division, Tamara advises on a broad range of domestic and international tax issues.
”With clients seeking specialized counsel on the complex changes in tax laws, Tamara’s considerable experience in federal tax controversy issues will assist in responding to IRS audits and litigation,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Her deep and nuanced understanding enhances the already robust services our clients depend on for complex tax matters.”
Tamara assists clients through all stages of interaction with the IRS, from initial examinations by revenue agents through administrative appeals and, when necessary, litigation. During her time at the Department of Justice, Tamara litigated cases on appeal from US district courts and the US Tax Court. She has handled dozens of cases in the US Courts of Appeals and acted as counsel of record in published decisions in the Second, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits. In addition to her experience as a lawyer, Tamara has worked extensively in business management, financial planning, and portfolio management.

Tamara’s arrival further expands the firm’s global tax practice, including California state tax partner William H. Gorrod, who joined in San Francisco in February 2024; seasoned tax partner Matthew D. Schnall, who joined in Boston in July 2023; and global tax partners Dr. Jann Jetter and Todd Smith, who joined in Munich in March 2023 and London in October 2022, respectively.
