Following a Riyadh Court of Appeal decision in a salary dispute, partner Rebecca Ford spoke with International Employment Lawyer about laws and regulations in Saudi Arabia involving payment of salary to employees. Rebecca said that when an employer needs to defer wages, it is important to ensure that the affected employee understands and gives written consent.
“In those circumstances, employers should explore options such as agreed unpaid leave for a short period of time, or an agreed reduction in pay, which would need to be reflected in the employment contract filed on the Qiwa portal,” Rebecca said.
