CHICAGO, August 1, 2024: Morgan Lewis has added veteran trial lawyer and litigator Stacie Hartman to deepen the firm’s investment management and disputes capabilities. Stacie represents clients in regulatory and other government investigations and complex litigation focusing on financial markets and the financial services industry. She will also continue her group leadership by taking on a leadership position in the firm’s multidisciplinary derivatives and commodities practice. Stacie joins today from another international law firm, where she served as the financial services group chair.
“Having led major cases before US courts and in enforcement proceedings before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and other federal financial agencies, Stacie augments our broad market-leading global investment management team as a significant advocate for our financial institutions clients and their regulatory and enforcement matters,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “In leveraging her strategic judgment, collaborative nature, and sterling reputation in the Chicago and national markets, Stacie brings immediate strength to our bench of talented litigators and substantial experience to develop sophisticated and pragmatic solutions for our clients’ business objectives.”
Stacie represents financial institutions and exchanges, futures commission merchants, swap dealers, proprietary trading firms, individual traders, and executives in complex litigation focused on financial markets and the financial services industry. She also conducts efficient and comprehensive internal investigations in her enforcement work and handles the follow-on private litigation that sometimes accompanies an enforcement action.
Beyond her experience before the CFTC, Stacie leads complex matters and enforcement proceedings before the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, National Futures Association, and financial exchanges, as well as in parallel investigations by the US Department of Justice.
“Bringing extensive knowledge of the financial markets and trading strategies to the table, as well as many years’ experience advising financial institutions and end-users across all asset classes in the derivatives industry, Stacie is well positioned to guide our clients through opportunities and anticipated regulatory changes on the horizon,” added Tim Levin, leader of the firm’s investment management practice. “We are thrilled to welcome Stacie to our growing team.”
Stacie’s arrival underscores the growth of the firm’s investment management team in key financial markets in the United States and in London. In 2022, the firm welcomed a four-person investment funds team, anchored by partners Zeke Johnson and Brian Jacobson, in Chicago, and bank regulatory and fintech duo Chris Paridon in Washington, DC and Kristin Lee in New York.
More recently, the firm added: Christine Ayako Schleppegrell (former SEC Division of Investment Management branch chief) in April 2023 in Washington, DC; partner trio Mark Parise, Todd Zerega, and Betselot Zeleke to multiple East Coast offices in March 2024; private funds partner Leonora Shalet, who joined in New York in June 2024; and secondaries partner Ted Craig in London in July.
