Sustainability Experts: ‘Start Preparing Now’ for SEC Climate Rule, Other Disclosure Regulations, ESG Dive

Tuesday, July 16, 2024

ESG Dive quoted partner Erin Martin from comments she made during a virtual event hosted by the publication titled “Risk & Reward: Complying with the SEC’s Climate Rule.” Erin spoke on a panel titled “Assessing the Global Climate Regulatory Environment,” during which the panelists discussed the current state of US and global ESG regulations and what companies need to know about new and upcoming mandatory climate disclosures.

“You need to start preparing now,” Erin said, while noting that such preparations would also be affected by the “ton of uncertainty” surrounding disclosure requirements.

Erin also discussed the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC’s) climate disclosure rule as well as the legal challenges against it and how the Loper Bright decision could impact that litigation.

“It’s not, ‘we have to start over.’ That’s not what’s at play here,” Martin said. “To be clear, [the Loper Bright ruling] does have a big impact. Just maybe not in this very small technical space right here.”
