Automotive Consumer Trends in 2024, Automotive Dive

Partner Levi McAllister was quoted in an Automotive Dive article about the trends that will likely impact consumer behavior toward electric vehicles (EVs) in 2024.

Levi discussed how the delayed rollout of both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program for EV charging stations and guidance around the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA’s) tax incentives have led to confusion and uncertainty among consumers, car dealers, and others.

“There’s still a tremendous need for public charging,” Levi said, noting that despite lawmakers’ attempts to get consumers to adopt EVs in the United States, “none of it will matter if there is not a way to charge them.”

On the IRA’s “extremely clunky and slow going” rollout, Levi added that it “creates a potential chilling effect in the industry about the extent to which [original equipment manufacturers] and, in turn, consumers can rely on these tax credits being available.”
