Tim Lynch, senior director of the strategic government relations and counseling practice, spoke to Automotive News about the upcoming Senate vote that will decide if Steven Cliff, current deputy administrator to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will lead the agency. Tim suggested that having a Senate-confirmed administrator in the position is “vitally important.” This is particularly true when it comes to the Autonomous Vehicles development, he said, as the industry will “hit a point where even though they haven’t been constrained necessarily by the lack of guidance and leadership, I think they’re going to quickly get to some issues that NHTSA is going to have to give more specific guidance.”
