LOS ANGELES, August 18, 2021: Morgan Lewis has been recognized by Learning Rights Law Center (LRLC) with its 2021 Champion of Education Award for the firm’s efforts in supporting LRLC’s mission to advance educational equity among Los Angeles-area families and communities whose children have been denied equal access to a public education as a consequence of disability or discrimination.
Since 2017, lawyers from the firm’s Los Angeles office have partnered with LRLC to represent at-risk students in education due process matters and settlement monitoring on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Last year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit’s ability to process and enforce settlement agreements was greatly compromised. In response, Morgan Lewis helped alleviate a backlog of settlement agreements, created case plans for families, and guided families through the process necessary to leverage the services available to their children.
The firm is set to receive the Champion of Education Award virtually during LRLC’s annual event, “A Cause for Celebration,” on October 16.
