Aliza R. Karetnick

Aliza’s deep familiarity with complicated cases led to her appointment as a special master by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, making her a go-to lawyer for clients in need of crisis management. She is an active member of several industry associations and regularly writes and speaks about legal and business issues affecting the personal care and food industries.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Aliza led the commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice in the Philadelphia office of a national law firm, where she also served as co-leader of its cross-practice manufacturing and consumer products team and class action litigation team.

• Represented a multinational perfumer and flavor producer in commercial litigation matters, enforcement of nondisclosure agreements, and regulatory matters, including US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspections
• Defended a multinational personal care company in cases involving allegations of false advertising and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
• Defended a personal care holding company and subsidiary brands in false advertising class actions
• Defended a large color cosmetics company in class actions involving allegations of false advertising and misbranded products
• Represented a global flavor manufacturer and distributor in a complex commercial dispute arising out of an asset purchase

• Defended a national bank in litigation involving allegations of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty relating to account holders’ Ponzi scheme
• Represented a national industry association in Administrative Procedures Act litigation relating to a federal government plan to import pharmaceuticals from Canada
• Represented the federal government before the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in an intellectual property action against a private university
• Obtained a complete affirmance of summary judgment on novel issues in the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit relating to copyright preemption and claims under RICO, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the Lanham Act; Collegesource, Inc. v. Academy One, Inc., 2015 U.S. App. LEXIS 1845 (3d Cir. Feb. 5, 2015)
• Obtained multiple preliminary injunctions on behalf of a Fortune 200 food manufacturer relating to confidentiality and noncompetition agreements
• Defended a closely held weight-loss company in a national pattern-and-practice employment class action opposite a government plaintiff
• Represented a mortgage lender and servicer in complex commercial litigation involving breaches of contract and fraud arising from the sale of a business unit and valuation of residual assets
• Defended a large financial institution in multiparty disputes involving allegations of fraud related to a Ponzi scheme
