Employers Push for Renewal of Expired Covid Telehealth Waiver, Bloomberg Law

Partner Sage Fattahian spoke with Bloomberg Law about an expired provision in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which once allowed those with high-deductible plans and health savings accounts (HSAs) to get telehealth coverage without meeting annual deductibles. With many employers announcing last fall a return to pre-CARES telehealth rules, Sage said “employers are complying because the risk to not complying is critical to their participants and they don’t want to jeopardize that HSA eligibility,” adding that this unfortunately “drives down utilization” of needed healthcare services.
