As an industry that relies so heavily on employee knowledge and expertise, healthcare employers take many steps to retain talent. Historically, this has included noncompete clauses in employment contracts. Some states, such as New York and Massachusetts, have passed legislation to limit the enforced scope, time, or geography of these clauses. In 2023, California took it a step further, passing a series of bills to make noncompete clauses unenforceable in the state.
