UK’s “AI Superpower” Plan Must Not Risk Workers’ Rights, Says Union, International Employment Lawyer

Partner Louise Skinner spoke to International Employment Lawyer about the employment aspects of the United Kingdom’s AI Opportunities Act plan.

“Whilst there is currently no specific UK legislation governing the use of AI in the workplace, leaving the potential for claims of misuse and related risks from an employment law perspective, there are existing protections afforded by current employment legislation and common law that would make it challenging for AI to displace a UK workforce completely,” Louise said. “Absent legislative changes, existing employment law protections including redundancy rights and fire and re-hire rules pose potential hurdles to overcome for employers wishing to replace parts of their workforce with AI.”
