ORANGE COUNTY, SAN FRANCISCO, and SILICON VALLEY, November 6, 2023: The Recorder has honored Morgan Lewis partner Brent Hawkins and associate Kandis Gibson with the Mentorship Award as part of its 2023 California Legal Awards. The annual awards honor the achievements of California lawyers and companies that are leading technology, innovation, and the legal profession.
Brent’s mentoring work includes spearheading Morgan Lewis’s formal practice-level sponsorship program, leading the firm’s First Generation Lawyer Network, providing support to participants in and serving as a former co-leader of the firm’s Black Lawyer Network, and serving in an advisory role for the firm’s Trial Academy. Brent has spent more than 25 years litigating intellectual property and other complex commercial disputes for clients in jurisdictions throughout the United States, and he is the managing partner of Morgan Lewis’s San Francisco office.
Kandis, who focuses her practice on Section 337 proceedings at the US International Trade Commission, called Brent a “natural leader” and credited him as a great source of support in her transition from a boutique law firm to Morgan Lewis. Kandis said that Brent “routinely checks in, makes himself available for questions, and facilitates introductions to clients and key stakeholders throughout the firm, among many other things.”
In addition, Morgan Lewis partners Adam Teitcher and Drew Frederick were formally recognized as Lawyers on the Fast Track, spotlighting the next generation of legal leaders under 40, during the November 2 ceremony. The firm was also named a finalist for The Recorder’s Environmental, Social, and Governance Initiative Award.
