Motonori Araki primarily advises on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), commercial transactions, intellectual property licensing, and international dispute resolution. Moto has worked with clients across all industries with a focus on life sciences and technology, representing major US and Japanese companies in cross-border transactions and regulatory matters. His M&A work includes representing buyers and sellers on cross-border transactions and covers structuring, documenting, and negotiating transactions.
Additionally, Moto represents major Japanese industrial, trading, and service companies in dealings in and with other Asian countries, Europe, and the United States.
Moto also regularly represents Japanese corporations in US intellectual property litigation, labor litigation, antitrust litigation, and related dispute resolution, and he counsels these clients on litigation strategies, efficient discovery, effective pleadings, and settlement negotiations. As part of his dispute resolution practice, Moto successfully handled the first comprehensive anti-dumping case in Japan.
Moto has experience in arbitration, including before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), American Arbitration Association (AAA), JAMS (formerly known as Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc.), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA).
