Maureen K. Barber focuses her practice on complex commercial, mass tort, and product liability litigation, working with clients across the healthcare, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and transportation industries. Maureen has experience in a broad range of civil and commercial matters from breach of contract and unfair competition to product liability, public nuisance, and false advertising. She counsels clients in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigation and negotiations, document and electronic discovery, fact and expert witness depositions, dispositive motions, and trial.
Maureen takes an active role in developing case strategy, conducting key site investigations and interviews, managing discovery, working with fact and expert witnesses, and taking fact and expert depositions.
Maureen is part of a team representing a global pharmaceutical manufacturer in nationwide prescription pain medication litigation. She currently serves as a lead associate in defending the company against claims asserted by hospital and healthcare entities across the country. Maureen has worked with litigation and trial teams in federal and state courts across the United States to achieve favorable resolutions in many jurisdictions, including a complete defense verdict in the Orange County, California Superior Court. She has demonstrated ability in key trial strategy and evidentiary issues, including those surrounding deposition designations, trial exhibits, and witness testimony.
Maureen is active in the local pro bono community, and currently serves as chair of the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership Board and vice-chair of the Pittsburgh office Pro Bono Committee. She is a recipient of the David B. Fawcett Pro Bono Service Award recognizing her service and commitment to representing the best interests of children in custody disputes, clients from local legal aid clinics, and victims in protection from abuse proceedings. Most recently, Maureen worked on behalf of a nonprofit client to challenge a Pennsylvania constitutional amendment package that would infringe on Pennsylvania voters’ rights, rearrange the balance of power in the Pennsylvania government, and violate the reproductive autonomy of Pennsylvania citizens.
