John Gaustad
John Gaustad is an intellectual property attorney who primarily represents clients in patent and trade secret disputes. He has experience in jurisdictions throughout the United States, including before various US district courts, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. John has experience across a wide variety of technologies, including telecommunications, networking, vehicle and object tracking, optical transceivers, search-engine optimization, and glucose monitors.
John’s IP litigation experience includes pre-suit investigations, discovery, pre- and post-trial motions (including motions for summary judgment), trial preparation, and appeal. He has experience identifying case-dispositive issues early and completing the research and discovery necessary to resolve those issues as soon as practicable. He also has experience deposing and defending key witnesses, working with technical experts, and arguing at hearings.
John has also engaged in pro bono work throughout his career, including representing clients in US district courts and arguing at the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
