Clayton A. Morton
Clayton A. Morton’s practice focuses on commercial, class action, and environmental litigation, and he represents clients in matters involving contractual disputes, consumer fraud, securities class actions, oil and gas litigation, and government investigations. Clayton works with a diverse group of clients, including oilfield services companies, banks, food and beverage companies, agribusiness companies, chemical companies, and a professional sports league. His active pro bono practice includes the representation of a criminal defendant in a civil rights action, a foreign national in a family law matter, and several nonprofits.
- Represented an international oilfield services company in the multidistrict litigation in federal district court stemming from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill
- Obtained a $293 million arbitration award in favor of a food and beverage client in a case involving legacy asbestos liabilities
- Represented an energy infrastructure company in the litigation stemming from the Aliso Canyon gas leak in Southern California
- Defended a chemical company in a shareholder action challenging the fairness of a $22 billion merger
- Conducted an internal investigation of the credit card services division of a banking client in response to a request from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
- Represented an oil and gas company in a fraud action stemming from an acquisition
- Obtained a $20 million judgment for an agribusiness client in a fraud case against a former business partner
- Defended a mining and milling company in a toxic tort case involving the alleged release of radionuclides
- Represented an investment bank in an expedited trial in bankruptcy court regarding a challenge to a material adverse change clause
- Defended a newspaper publishing company in a class action lawsuit involving wage and hour claims
- Pursued a nationwide class action lawsuit on behalf of participants in a section 457 retirement plan
- Represented a concrete block manufacturing company asserting claims for predatory pricing and business disparagement against a competitor
- Defended a docket of mortgage cases for a banking client
