As part of Abu Dhabi Finance Week 2025, partner Troy Brown will be delivering a Master Talk that will lead into a panel discussion at the Abu Dhabi International Dispute Resolution Forum’s RESOLVE, a dynamic event focused on critical issues at the forefront of global disputes. Centering around the theme of “Resilience,” global speakers will discuss their insights on the challenging topics in today’s business marketplace, including class actions against Big Tech, the legal intricacies of climate disputes, emerging trends in insolvency and restructuring, and regulatory guardrails and ethics for the future for artificial intelligence (AI)-related disputes.
Troy will first deliver a Master Talk titled The Rise and Rise of Big Tech Social Damage, which will explore the rise of class actions against Big Tech for a variety of societal harms, as well as how acquisitive companies, private equity firms, and funds are viewing the future of their investments in emerging tech companies within jurisdictions rife with social media-related lawsuits.
Immediately following, Troy will serve as a moderator on the panel Class Actions for Societal Harm – The Silicon Valley Backlash. As class action frameworks expand globally, with countries like Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and certain regions of the European Union embracing collective litigation, the United States continues to lead the charge against large and emerging tech companies for alleged societal harms. Social media platforms, gaming companies, and app developers face mounting legal pressure from class action litigants alleging harm. This panel will explore recent cases and the intersection between profit-driven innovation, investor risk strategies, and consumer protection.
