Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Selects Morgan Lewis Lawyers

WASHINGTON DC, February 18, 2020: Morgan Lewis is pleased to announce that partner Michele Buenafe (FDA, Washington, DC) has been named a 2020 Fellow by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and associates Monica Chang (investment management, San Francisco) and James Nortey (litigation, Houston) have been named 2020 Pathfinders.

Michele will participate in LCLD’s program created to identify, train, and advance the legal profession’s next generation of leaders. The yearlong program focuses on “relationship-building, in-person training, peer-group projects, and extensive contact with LCLD’s top leadership and the best teachers in the business.”

Michele serves as the leader of Morgan Lewis’s digital health initiative and as co-leader for the firm’s cross-practice healthcare industry team. She assists clients on FDA regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters related to medical devices and digital health technologies, and also advises on DEA and state regulatory issues for controlled substances and medical products, including both drugs and devices.

Monica and James will participate in the LCLD Pathfinders program, which trains high-performing, up and coming lawyers in critical career development strategies, including leadership skills and the building of professional networks.

Monica works on the structuring, formation, and governance of, and investment in, US domestic and international private investment funds in all asset classes. She advises fund sponsors and investment managers on fund formations, secondary transactions, portfolio investments, and matters relating to fund governance and issues of state corporate and partnership law.

James litigates and negotiates high-stakes disputes on behalf of clients in US federal and state courts. His practice includes commercial and pro bono matters. James also provides strategic legal, business, and policy advice to clients in contested matters before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.
