Leveraging 30 years of trial experience and a decade of high-level public service in state government, Robert M. Brochin represents corporate clients facing complex commercial litigation and regulatory matters in a wide range of areas, from real estate to financial services. Bobby brings a passion for public law and human rights issues, combined with insights into the business regulatory process, to his practice.
A co-author of the Florida False Claims Act of 1991, Bobby also defends corporations against actions brought under federal and state false claims acts.
Named a “Most Effective Lawyer” by American Lawyer Media and praised for his courtroom performance by Chambers USA, Bobby frequently leads multijurisdictional and multiparty litigation teams. He has acted as national defense counsel for financial services clients targeted in a series of complex, multidistrict putative class actions in US federal and state courts, coupled with investigations and lawsuits brought by attorneys general in several states.
Bobby’s service to Florida’s executive branch includes serving as deputy general counsel to the Florida governor, and then as Florida’s Inspector General, the executive branch’s watchdog over a dozen state agencies. He was appointed a member of the 1998 Florida Constitution Revision Commission and served as counsel to the State of Florida’s Emergency Financial Oversight Board, charged with helping the City of Miami recover from a declaration of financial emergency.
At the governor’s request, Bobby helped frame proposals to reform Florida’s capital punishment procedures, as well as a successful Constitutional amendment prioritizing quality public education. In addition to the state False Claims Act, he co-authored the Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992 and Section 702.10 of the Florida Statutes, which provides for alternative foreclosure procedures. He also served as an ad hoc member of the Committee on Rules and Procedures for the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
