Eugene S. Hwangbo concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation involving utility patents, design patents, and trade secrets. Gene represents clients across a diverse array of industries and technologies such as power tool products, oilfield services, and artificial intelligence. In addition to his intellectual property work, Gene is committed to public service and maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing on Section 1983 claims and Afghan immigration matters.
During law school, Gene served on the editorial board of the Northwestern University Law Review as online managing editor. He also served as judicial extern to Judge John Z. Lee in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Prior to law school, Gene served 20 years in the US Army, including ten years overseas, as a Ranger-qualified infantry and civil affairs officer. Following his military service, Gene was competitively selected by the US Department of State as a foreign service officer in the public diplomacy track. From his federal service, Gene has held a Top Secret (TS/SCI) security clearance.
Gene currently serves as an associate representative of Morgan Lewis’s Veterans Lawyer Network.
