Eric Kraeutler spent more than 40 years as a commercial, white collar, and intellectual property litigator with Morgan Lewis. Following his September 2023 retirement, Eric now serves as counsel to the firm while devoting his energy to civic activities and pro bono representations. Eric serves as chair of the Committee of Seventy, a nonprofit civic leadership organization that advances representative, ethical, and effective government in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. Eric is also a trustee of the Keasbey Memorial Foundation, which awards scholarships to students from select colleges and universities in the United States for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom.
Eric is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2013–2023) and Best Lawyers in America (2008–2024). In the 1980s, Eric served as an assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, focusing on money laundering and complex business crimes. In the 1990s, as a special Pennsylvania deputy attorney general, Eric oversaw a statewide grand jury that voted to indict Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen and issued an investigation report that became a catalyst for judicial discipline reform. Eric also testified before the Pennsylvania Senate at the historic impeachment trial of Justice Larsen.
Eric served as leader of Morgan Lewis’s intellectual property practice from 2014 to 2020, during which time the practice grew to include more than 200 lawyers and other professionals around the globe. In 2019, the practice was named IP Litigation Practice of the Year by The American Lawyer and IP Practice Group of the Year by Law360.
In addition to his practice leadership, Eric was a longtime member of the firm’s Advisory Board, including service as the lead Advisory Board member. For many years, Eric served as the firmwide hiring partner, and he was a founding member of the firm’s Diversity Committee.
