Senior associate Anna Kornilova was invited to participate in the OECD fact-finding mission regarding Competition Law and Policy in Kazakhstan on January 25, 2025.
Meetings were held in Astana, Kazakhstan with the Agency on Protection and Development of Competition, other state bodies, judges, and business within the framework of the second peer review of OECD on Competition Law and Policy in Kazakhstan.
The Agency invited Anna as one of three authorities to discuss the following:
- Effectiveness of Preventive Regulation: Discussions centered on evaluating current preventive measures and their impact on maintaining fair competition within Kazakhstan’s markets.
- Antimonopoly Compliance: The mission examined the existing compliance frameworks and their effectiveness in curbing monopolistic practices.
- Communication Improvement: Strategies to enhance communication between business community and Kazakhstan’s Agency on Protection and Development of Competition were explored, aiming to foster a more transparent and cooperative environment.
- Natural Monopolies: The team addressed issues related to natural monopolies, assessing their influence on market dynamics and competition.
- Market Demonopolization Policies: Government policies aimed at reducing monopolistic control and promoting market diversity were critically analyzed.
The findings from this mission will be thoroughly analyzed and incorporated into a comprehensive report. This report is anticipated to be published in September 2025, providing valuable insights and recommendations for enhancing competition law and policy in Kazakhstan.
