Theodore A. Rand

Before law school, Theodore worked as an engineer for a startup creating live sports graphic displays and then at Sovrn, an AdTech company in Boulder, Colorado. His experience working with software not only gave him the opportunity to solve technical challenges for clients and contribute to open-source code repositories, but it also allowed him to learn about the legal challenges that clients encountered. Specifically, Theodore assisted clients in making their websites compliant with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and helped determine how implementing new code would affect open-source licensing configurations. During law school, while working mainly with patents and commercial contracts for LiveRamp, a tech company in San Francisco, he also researched and briefed issues related to state data privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

During law school, Theodore worked as a chief article editor of the University of New Hampshire Law Review and was the financial director of the school’s Patent Law Forum. He also performed externships assisting with patent prosecution at a large defense company, BAE Systems, and the US International Trade Commission.
