For several years, Ben served as a member of the Emerging Leadership Board of the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association.

As a law student, Ben served as senior managing editor of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and published the note “Bankruptcy Insurance: A Modular Approach to Systemic Risk.” He also served as a senior editor of JURIST and as a teaching assistant for legal analysis and writing. 

• Assisted a large technology company in connection with licensing out machine-learning (ML) technologies for medical device and digital health applications to facilitate the improvement of health outcomes, particularly in underdeveloped countries
• Assisted a corporate-backed venture in the launch of its blockchain platform, a participant-based network that enables interoperability, collaboration (including secure data sharing), solutions, optimization, and connectivity throughout the healthcare ecosystem
• Assisted a life sciences company in the creation and launch of a joint venture with a Big Data analytics and harmonization tech company to develop and bring to market a comprehensive platform solution for data curation and collaboration
• Assisted a venture philanthropy foundation in the creation and launch of a database and research consortium, in collaboration with several university and commercial partners, designed to facilitate discovery of key predictive factors and breakthrough technologies and treatments regarding cognitive decline
• Assisted a leading technology company in the launch of, and early strategic commercial agreements for, its medical record search engine and workflow productivity application that supports clinicians in providing patient care
• Assisted in the launch of a Big Data cloud-based computational discovery platform and data commons for the brain health community
• Assisted in the creation and launch of a joint venture involving digital-first, artificial intelligence (AI) based healthcare solutions designed to reduce avoidable healthcare costs, improve health outcomes, increase access to healthcare services, and make healthcare more affordable
• Assisted in the launch of a medical testing-as-a-service collaboration
• Assisted in the integration of a telehealth platform with a healthcare provider network
• Assisted in the expansion of a collaboration that leverages AI/ML to develop digital health solutions to improve patient care, accelerate drug development, and further research the underlying pathologies of neurological diseases
• Assisted in the launch of a platform and third-party app marketplace for AI and software solutions that can be incorporated into and enhance medical devices
• Assisted in the creation and launch of a joint venture to develop and manufacture automotive security and safety products delivered to end customers through an integrated vehicle platform
• Served as outside technology transfer counsel to a leading research university
• Served as outside general technology and commercial transaction counsel for several disruptive digital health, fintech, and technology companies from early startup stages through late-stage financings and exits
