Representing companies from hardware, software, telecommunications, medical equipment, and energy industries, Yalei Sun counsels clients on strategic patent planning and dispute resolution. Actively involved in expanding Morgan Lewis’s Greater China Practice, he advises Chinese companies in practice areas ranging from intellectual property (IP) due diligence, licensing and settlement negotiations, and patent litigation to US government regulatory compliance and appellate matters. He also collaborates with many Chinese law firms to help foreign companies enforce their IP rights in China.
Each year, Yalei travels to China multiple times, visiting his clients and business partners in different cities. Teaming up with other Morgan Lewis attorneys, he gives many lectures to Chinese companies on US patent law and helps them solve a broad spectrum of US legal issues.
Fluent in Chinese and English, Yalei’s background includes undergraduate and graduate work at China’s Tsinghua University, as well as graduate work at Stanford University. While in law school, he researched Chinese patent law and published two articles on the subject.
Before joining Morgan Lewis, Yalei was a patent agent at a New York-based boutique law firm where he handled patent prosecution as well as patent infringement and invalidity analyses. Prior to that, he worked as a software engineer at two large software companies in the Silicon Valley.
